DivX Announces to Shut Down Stage6.com

DivX, Inc., a digital media company, today announced that the Company will cease operation of its Stage6.com video service on February 28, 2008.

Following an exploration of strategic options that began in July 2007, the Company has decided to cease operation of the site and focus its resources on the Company’s core DivX technology licensing business while also continuing to power the distribution of DivX video content on third-party sites.

“Our core business is to work with a wide variety of partners to give consumers a high-quality digital video experience on any device or platform,” said Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc. “By no longer expending resources on Stage6, we sharpen our focus on creating a global standard for digital video while building a business that maximizes shareholder value. We will provide more information related the Stage6.com shutdown on our fourth quarter earnings call, scheduled for March 11, 2008.”

Videos on Stage6.com will be available for viewing and download through February 28, 2008. The Company will work with certain content publishers to migrate content to alternative web distribution platforms.

The DivX All In One Fix 1.8

The quick fix will resolve most of the common problems you can encounter using the DivX Software. These fixes will typically inspect, reconfigure or disable third party software known to interfere with the normal use of DivX for Windows Software. Some sections contain options for removing many filters that have the *potential* to interfere with the good operation of DivX for Windows. Some filters here may be required by other software on your system and by removing it, they may not run properly. You use this program entirely at your own risks.

This component will un-register the default mp3 filter that comes with your Operating System and then re-register it: "l3codecx.ax"

LPCM Audio Codec Missing

Video Display Problem
Remove Bicubic resize filter - Included in many codec packs ex.: Nimo - Can cause no video to appear, or video that is upside down or mirrored.
Remove XviD filter - This removes the XviD DirectShow decoder filter. Many codec packs ex.:. Nimo feature Nic's build of the DirectShow filter that steals playback of DivX FourCC's. Unfortunately, most of these build can not playback all DX5 series video and the result is the start of files not playing, video appearing green, or other artifacting.
Remove G400 filter - This filter is part of several codec packs, including Nimo's, and causes video to play upside down. It should only be installed on systems using Matrox G400 cards in the first place.
Remove DivX Anti-freeze filter - This filter is included in codec packs (inc. Nimo) - May cause some instability with DivX Codec and Dr DivX as well.

Player Off Limits
Sometime, when opening the DivX Player, it goes out of the screen but it is in the taskbar. This component will bring back the player in the middle of the screen. The player needs to be close before you run this fix.

Burning Engine Update
This will update the DivX Player Burning Engine to the latest version.

Ordinal Error
If you receive "ordinal 2250 can't be found in PX.dll" error when starting the player, this component of the fix, will solve the problem.....

How to install RipIt4Me, DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter in Linux

Although there are some very good programs for dvd ripping and dvd backup under Linux such as devede and k9copy many window users that have moved to Linux still prefer using dvddecrypter and dvdshrink. Therefore they have a dual boot system just to use those programs! In this guide I will explain how it is possible to install dvdshrink and dvddecrypter under Linux using wine. Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix. In other words think of Wine as a compatibility layer for running Windows programs as it is described in its official home page.

For the following tutorial I will be using wine 0.9.45, dvd shrink 3.2.0.15, DVDDecrypter 3.5.4.0 and RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0. You must also find and download those 2 dlls, mfc42.dll and msvcp60.dll. They can also be found in a windows installation in C:\Windows\System32 folder. For the rest of the guide I suppose that you have all of these files under ~/downloads folder.

I have completed the installation and rip process in a Fedora 7 32bit system. Therefore I don't know if it works in other distributions. I believe it should. Please report if you achieve it under another Linux distribution.

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. Decrypting and re-encoding DVD-Audio

DVD-Audio is a standard for storing high quality stereo or multi-channel audio content on a standard DVD disk. Supported sample rates range from 44.1KHz up to 192KHz, with bit depths of 16, 20 or 24 bits. A DVD-Audio contains both DVD-Audio content (in the AUDIO_TS folder) and DVD-Video content (in the VIDEO_TS folder) and has the DVD-Audio logo. The audio in the AUDIO_TS folder can be either Linear Pulse Compression Modification (abbreviated LPCM, which is uncompressed) or Meridian Lossless Packing (abbreviated MLP, which is losslessly compressed). Usually, a DVD-Audio contains 5.1ch MLP / 2.0ch MLP or 5.1ch MLP / 2.0ch LPCM. There is also audio present in the VIDEO_TS folder, but of lower quality (that is with a lower sample rate and a lower bit depth). More information can be found here.

A DVD-Audio can be encrypted. The encryption is called Content Protection for Prerecorded Media (CPPM), which uses a media key block (MKB) to authenticate DVD-Audio players. In order to decrypt the audio, players must obtain a media key from the MKB, which also is encrypted. The player must use its own unique key to decrypt the MKB. If a DVD-Audio player's decryption key is compromised, that key can be rendered useless for decrypting future DVD-Audio discs. DVD-Audio discs can also contain digital watermarking technology, typically embedded into the audio once every thirty seconds. If a DVD-Audio player encounters a watermark on a disc without a valid MKB, it will halt playback. quoted from wikipedia As of today, the encryption is broken, but it is not possible to remove the watermarks yet.

The purpose of this guide is the following:

• It explains how to decrypt and re-encode the audio of your DVD-Audio to FLAC (which is an open source lossless audio codec). This enables you to play your re-encondings on your PC without any hassle (using open source tools).
• The above will be done retaining higher quality than the audio counterpart that is located on the video section of the disc.

As of today, it is not possible to decode the MLP tracks of your DVD-Audio using open source (or even free) tools. So you need to get one of the following two tools:

• The Sonic filters "Sonic HD Demuxer" and "Sonic Cinemaster@Audio Decoder 4.3.0". They are directshow filters contained in the package "Sonic.CinePlayer.HD.DVD.Decoder.v4.3.rar".
• Surcode MLP.

If you want to use AviSynth (without creating intermediate WAV files) then you need to get the Sonic filters somewhere. As of today, 192kHz 24bit MLP tracks are not supported by the Sonic filters, so you are forced to use Surcode MLP in that case. The Sonic filters which support MLP decoding are the following:

1. CinemasterAudio.dll v4.2.0.840, SonicHDDemuxer.dll v4.2.0.59
2. CinemasterAudio.dll v4.3.0.151, SonicHDDemuxer.dll v4.3.0.73
