Office Mobile 6.1 is an upgrade to Office Mobile applications on Windows Mobile. The new upgrade supports the new Office 2007 file formats.Microsoft Office 2007 introduced new Open XML-based file formats for Office applications. These new file formats reduce file size, improve security and reliability, and enhance integration with external sources.
To allow Windows Mobile users to work with Office documents created in the Open XML formats, Microsoft has developed an upgrade for Word Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile applications. I am trying to get my daughter's Pc ready for her to go to uni, it runs on Vista. Is there a word processing package like Microsoft office that runs on these machines? I do not find the microsoft website very helpful here.

is it a laptop running Windows Vista?
Then you can install Microsoft Office 2007 in vista.
But if you want an open source solution for office package, then go for openOffice [url:http://www.openoffice.org/]
or go for ABiWord [just google for it.. its free]
Star office is there, but it is only up to Windows XP... So i think Open Office will be a great freeware package for you.
