ManicTime: Personal time management application

ManicTime automatically collects data on your computer usage. It records active and away time, as well as which applications you used and for how long you used them.

The data ManicTime collects is stored in a local database on your computer. Collected data is not transmitted anywhere or shared with anyone. Only you have access to it, which means no privacy concerns.
Having a local database also enables you to use ManicTime offline, without an Internet connection.

Collected data is presented using timelines. There are three predefined timelines:
  • Activity: Shows your active time and away(idle) time
  • Applications: Shows which application you used, when and for how long
  • Tags: Shows tags you created. This timeline is not automatically generated it is filled with time tags you entered.
When you move your mouse over a timeline, each timeline shows you a hint about an underlying activity. Hint displays detailed information about an activity such as title, application name, start and end times and duration.

Review: Executor - Freeware Application Launcher

Most techie people like their PC easy accessible. They want everything handy and in control. They want their desktop and Quick launch bar clean and with no shortcuts at all.

I was used to clean my desktop and quick launch but was accessing every program through 'run' dialog or start menu.

Then i got this application launcher which is very light weight and handy.

Executor is a free ware application launcher. Its having very easy configuration dialog as below which allows you to change
-Hot key
-skins
-history
-drop down box
-transparency

You can add your own commands for anything like a folder, file or any executable.
But the best thing is it supports importing all commands from start menu. yes, its very easy. You just press 'ctrl+I' and it will show you all the programs from start menu.Select your wish list from it and add them.

Now all your favorite programs are handy at just one hot key 'Win+Z'.Type the name of program and executor will fetch and show you its icon also.

It takes some 9 to 10 MB memory of CPU.so no matter what is your PC configuration, you can use this small tool to get your work done fast!

I have used other launchers out of which one is Launchy which is nice tool but it eats around more than 25 MB of CPU memory.

I am using this since more than 1 year and as per me,this is the best launcher.

AutoIt - automation tool

AutoIt is a simple tool that can simulate key presses, mouse movements and window commands (maximize, minimize, wait for, etc.) in order to automate any windows based task (or even windowed DOS tasks). It was primarily designed to assist in automatically installing software that cannot be automatically installed by other means. This is most useful during a PC rollout where hundreds or thousands of client machines need to be automatically installed. However, AutoIt is not limited to software installation and can be used to automate many simple or complex windows tasks like executing programs, sending keystrokes and mouse clicks, text clipboard functions, registry functions and more.

MoveIt2 - automatically move or upload files

MoveIt2 is a utility to automatically move files that are added to a specific folder. You can set filters based on the file name, rename files using regular expressions when moving them to the new destination, create directories based on the file name or date and check if the file already exists. The program can move files from/to local folders as well as FTP directories. MoveIt2 offers quite a few features that make the program very flexible and useful for a variety of file management tasks as well as file backups. It runs in the system tray and automatically monitors the selected folders for any additions that match your file moving rules. You can set up to 5 working threads, each with individual settings. Other features include detailed logging, support for subdirectory scanning, command-line options and more. This free Lite version is restricted to 5 MoveIt2 threads (moving rules), which should be sufficient for most users.

AutoPatcher August 2007

AutoPatcher is a comprehensive collection of patches, addons and registry tweaks that give you peace of mind in the knowledge that your Windows system is up to date, even before you connect it to the Internet. It's designed to quickly patch a system with the most current updates and tweaks available, and requires no user interaction once you have selected what to install.

Two surprises this month:
1) Releases for Microsoft Office XP/2003/2007 are now complete and available.
2) AutoPatcher 5.6 now supports slipstreaming updates into installation media. The x86 releases have slipstream installation instructions added to most general windows patches.

Tutorial - Automated cleanup of windows temparory files

Most of the windows user have this big problem that how to automate the cleanup of temporary files on system drive.i was also wondering about this but then i read some commands of dos and finally got the solution.some people use third party tools to cleanup. But for cleanup you don't need to do anything.just make a small batch file and run when ever you want to cleanup.

here is the code
cd C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Recent
del *.* /Q

cd %temp%
del *.* /Q

cd %windir%/temp
del *.* /Q

cd C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

del *.* /Q /S
Now this just deletes all files which are temporary. You can also add c:\windows\prefetch folder which is also not needed. It also contains useless files and waste your memory.
cd c:\windows\prefetch
del *.* /Q
Ok,but what baout system restore? i have solution for that also.

on command prompt write
cd c:\systenm vol*
now you will be in 'System Volume Information' folder.then write
cd _restore*
and then type
dir /b RP*>c:\1.txt
so it will store all the dir list in _restore.... folder in file c:\1.txt
then run a for loop on that files lines.

say
dir /b RP*>c:\1.txt
for /F %%i in (c:\1.txt) do RD %%i /Q /S
this will delete all RP* directories from restore folder and your hard drive will be clean.

now the whole code at once for your help.
c:
cd C:\Documents and Settings\username\Recent
del *.* /Q

cd %temp%
del *.* /Q

cd %windir%/temp
del *.* /Q

cd C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
del *.* /Q /S

cd c:\system vol*
cd _restore*

dir /b RP*>c:\1.txt

for /F %%i in (c:\1.txt) do RD %%i /Q /S

cls
cd c:
exit
